I have been a teacher in Cold Lake for over 25 years. Over the same amount of time I have also been organizing bottle drives with my students at the Cold Lake Recycling Center and Bottle Depot. The purpose of my letter is to acknowledge the contributions, support and genuine good will of the Elkadri family that runs the depot. The Cold Lake Recycling Center and Bottle Depot business has been a strong community supporter for many years. This family run business goes above and beyond typical business expectations. A few years ago, the Elkadri family was involved in Curtis Hargroves run across Canada. Unbeknownst to most, the Elkadri family provided Curtis with a gas card so that he could fill a vehicle in order that Curtis team could safely drive beside him in this long trek. This way all of the money that Curtis raised could be put towards the Stollery Hospital and not used on costly gas expenses. The Elkadri family took this fundraising effort further, such that their son Hemzy, took a portion of his paycheck all summer and put it towards a Curtis fund. In addition, the Elkadris spear headed several bottle drives where they and extended family went from house to house in the Cold Lake area to collect bottles in support of Curtis run. At the Bottle Depot, a bin was set up where patrons could donate one bottle at a time towards this worthy cause. After all of this hard work, the Cold Lake Recycling Center and Bottle Depot was able to donate $16 200 to Curtis Childrens Stollery Hospital run across Canada. At the school level, we do five to six bottle drives a year to help reduce the costs of various field trips. These trips include the Red Deer Band trip ($200/student), the grade seven Science Calgary Zoo trip ($100/student) and the trip to the Rocky Mountains for Outdoor Education ($500/student). This fundraising opportunity is especially pertinent now with the down turn in the local economy. Without these bottle drives, there would be many families that would not be able to afford these field trips. The Cold Lake Recycling Center/Bottle Depot and the Elkadri family always go out of their way to be helpful. They provide the school with a place to sort bottles and if their staff is not busy helping patrons, they help our volunteers with this sorting. Both Hussein and Youssef have an excellent rapport with the students. One parent was quoted as saying you have a heart of gold. They have provided us with this support for over 25 years and do so without any recognition. Also at the school level, we have been working hard to reduce the amount of waste in our environment. Once again, the Cold Lake Recycling Center and Bottle Depot was instrumental in moving this project forward. In order to properly dispose of plastics, paper, cardboard and recyclable beverage containers, you need bins. The Elkadri family was able to secure over 50 bins from the Alberta Beverage Container Management Center for our school and 300 in total for other schools in the community. In addition to the inside containers, Mr. Elkadri was able to find several sturdy outdoor containers such that our school no longer has birds and winds blowing our garbage and recyclables around the playground. With this assistance, the students will be able to move forward and make a difference in our school and community. It has been my pleasure to be associated with the Cold Lake Recycling Center and Bottle Depot and the Elkadri family over the past 25 years. I look forward to this continued partnership in the years to come. If more businesses involved themselves to the extent that the Elkadri family does in the community, it would make the city of Cold Lake an even better place to live.
they are nice
All of the people there looked like they were having fun and they interacted with me doing my return
Where to start. When you first walk in you are greeted by the staff even if the place is packed. They are always helpful, accommodating and cheerful. They help out our community with their business and individually are active members of our community. My hat comes off to them.
the workers in Cold Lake bottle depot are always friendly with me and most of them wear a smile as they work. recycling is not a pretty job, and I'm glad that we have one in the city
They give back to the community. Are helpful with bottle drives. Family run business.
They are always very prompt and willing to help when I come in. Their positive approach makes the deliver so much more pleasant, than deliveries at other Depots I've been to. The staff is always very friendly.
The staff is fast and efficient, very friendly and have fun working with each other
They are always efficient and friendly, I trust them and always have a positive experience. I think trust is one of the most difficult things to achieve in a business and one of the most important, especially for a local business. Cold Lake Bottle Depot has earned this from the community.
This depot should be applauded because of the amazing work they do and because of how incredibly professional they are. I have personally witnessed unpleasant customers at this depot and the staff here always maintain their cool and do a great job. They are very patient. On one of my earlier visits, one of them even took the time to teach me how to properly sort my bottles, and my visits could not be more efficient. Even when people show up without sorting, the staff here is always polite and patient, making sure they maintain a high level of professionalism and do a great job.
Their customer service is number one on the list of what they are best at. This family is also very involved in the community & helping out the local charities. WAY TO GO COLD LAKE BOTTLE DEPOT!!! We love you here in Cold Lake!
